Associate ITS Design Engineer/Manager

WSP are seeking an Associate Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Design Manager to join WSP’s Intelligent Mobility team in Abu Dhabi. This senior leadership role is ideal for an experienced ITS professional with 12+ years of industry experience, strong project oversight capabilities, and proven expertise delivering ITS solutions across major transport programs in the GCC. You will provide technical leadership, management oversight, and strategic direction across complex ITS projects while mentoring design teams and supporting client relationships at a senior level.

• Provide strategic leadership in the planning, design, integration, and delivery of advanced ITS systems for testbeds, control centers, highways, tunnels, and multimodal networks.
• Oversee and approve designs for core ITS elements including VMS, LSCS, OHVD, WiM, CCTV, vehicle detection systems, emergency call systems, AID, communication networks, and integrated traffic management systems.
• Lead the development and validation of Tunnel ITS designs , ensuring compliance with life safety, operations, and resilience requirements.
• Direct the design of highway ITS subsystems such as lane control systems, speed enforcement, ramp metering, weigh in motion, traffic monitoring, and incident management systems.
• Manage complex ITS design packages from concept to detailed design, ensuring quality, cost efficiency, and timely delivery.
• Provide technical governance , reviewing and approving design documentation, specifications, drawings, and deliverables produced by the engineering team.
• Develop and oversee ITS Concept of Operations (ConOps) for testbeds, control centers, and major highway and tunnel schemes, ensuring alignment with client visions and operational strategies.
• Ensure all designs comply with Abu Dhabi and UAE regulatory frameworks, relevant international standards, and global best practices.
• Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical guidance to ITS engineers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Support resource planning, workload distribution, and competency development within the Intelligent Mobility team.
• Act as a senior technical advisor and subject matter expert during client meetings, workshops, and stakeholder engagements.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships with government authorities, including ITC, DOTs, and transport agencies across the GCC.
• Lead technical presentations, solution proposals, and design justifications to support project approvals
• Stay informed on emerging ITS technologies, trends, and standards to strengthen WSP’s service offerings.
• Contribute to business development by supporting bids, proposals, and strategic pursuits in the Intelligent Mobility domain.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in ITS design, integration, and delivery, with strong exposure to UAE/GCC projects.
• Approved by the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) for ITS Works in Abu Dhabi – Valid ITC ITS certificate is mandatory for this role.
• Demonstrated expertise in tunnel and highway ITS, traffic signal systems, control center, and ITS testbeds.
• Deep knowledge of Abu Dhabi ITS guidelines, standards, design procedures, and approval workflows.
• Proven experience managing multidisciplinary design teams and leading project delivery in a consultancy environment.
• Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
• Professional certifications in ITS, project management, systems engineering (e.g., PMP, CEng, INCOSE ASEP/CSEP) considered a strong advantage.
