JOB SUMMARY / BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
The Associate Parish Accounting & Financial Analyst is an entry‑level member of the Finance team who supports parishes, schools, and related ministries within the Archdiocese. This role provides basic accounting assistance, system support, and guidance on financial policies and procedures. A key part of the position is building strong, professional relationships with parish and school staff to promote clear, accurate, and transparent financial practices. The Associate will also help train users, answer questions, and assist with ongoing financial processes across the Archdiocese.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS REQUIRED OF THIS POSITION
- Provide setup, training, and ongoing support for Archdiocesan‑approved accounting software systems
- Assist parishes and schools in understanding and implementing financial and administrative policies and procedures
- Support entities with basic budgeting, financial reporting, internal controls, and general business operations
- Help gather and share financial updates for the Regional Moderator and Curia leadership as needed
- Review submitted financial reports to identify trends, concerns, or areas for improvement
- Assist in creating simple reports, templates, and tools that help parishes and schools understand their financial data
- Develop familiarity with key Archdiocesan financial projects and processes to ensure accurate and timely support
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to build professional relationships, communicate clearly, and earn trust with parish/school staff
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (an Accounting minor is acceptable)
- Internship experience or up to 3 years of entry‑level accounting, budgeting, or financial analysis experience
- Experience in parish/school or nonprofit accounting is helpful but not required.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams; ability to work with data or basic programming tools is a plus
- Experience with accounting software preferred; knowledge of Sage Intacct is desirable
- Willingness to attend occasional evening or weekend meetings
- Ability to travel within the Archdiocese of Detroit
