Position Summary:

Kids Can Community Center is a non-profit organization founded in 1908. Our mission is to educate, engage, and inspire children through early childhood care and out-of-school experiences. The early childhood program works to promote kindergarten readiness in student’s academic, physical, and social-emotional development.

The Associate Teacher works cooperatively with additional classroom teaching staff to plan and implement the daily educational program for children. Under the support of the Lead Teacher and program administrators, the Associate Teacher supports students in their academic, physical, and social-emotional development while utilizing best practices, data informed decision making, and effective classroom management and structures.

Essential Functions:

Child Development / Curriculum / Assessment:

  • Foster positive relationships with all children with opportunities for children to develop positive self-images.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate classroom activities that support student growth and development.
  • Ensure all activities and lessons meet agency standards with clear goals, objectives, and outcomes for children.
  • Support the data collection and evaluation for all students in assigned classroom to observe and assess each child’s skill and behavior development.
  • Collaborate on the utilization of data results to create both individual student plans and make classroom adjustments as needed.

Classroom Management:

  • Prioritize the physical and emotional safety of children at all times.
  • Ensure all children receive appropriate supervision and support through proactive engagement and relationship building.
  • Support the maintenance of clean, safe, and healthy learning environments.
  • Apply guidelines and strategies from ITERS/ECERS, CLASS, and Teaching Strategies GOLD within the classroom.

Parent Engagement:

  • Communicate with parents on an ongoing, informal, basis regarding their child’s experience and progress toward learning goals.
  • Maintain thoughtful documentation to communicate child experiences with parents.
  • Work collaboratively with program administration to offer any additional resources to parents when applicable.
  • Encourage parent involvement where possible.

Supervision and Administration:

  • Participate in regular coaching process with Lead Teacher.
  • Complete regular professional development and create plans for implantation of concepts learned.
  • Maintain high levels of professionalism at all times.
  • Ensure protection of confidentiality regarding each child and family.
  • Timely completion of necessary paperwork.

Qualifications

· Associates or bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (preferred).

· Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or a bachelor’s degree in a related field with two years of experience as an early childhood educator (required).

· Successfully pass background checks that meet compliance requirements.

Required Skills

· Knowledge (or training completion) of curriculum, principles, and best practices in the field. Previous experience with Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies GOLD is a plus.

· Ability to problem solve and quickly adapt when needed.

· Bi-Lingual

· Hours for Job: 8am to 5pm - Monday-Friday

· Knowledge of state licensing requirements.

· Excellent communication skills: work effectively as a team (communicate with others, resolve conflicts, and offer solutions to problems).

· Ability to be cooperative and adaptive in the team environment.

· Demonstrate self-awareness and the ability to think about others perspectives.

· A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required. Hiring is contingent upon approval from the Nebraska Central Registry of Child Abuse and Neglect, Nebraska Adult Protective Services Registry.

· Maintain appropriate boundaries and prioritize confidentiality.

· Ability to operate a computer and utilize various software as required.

Ongoing/In-Service Requirements:

· Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid and additional requirements as needed.

· Obtain a minimum adequate annual training to maintain high quality leadership. Training must include, but is not limited to safe environments, healthy environments, learning environments, physical development, cognitive learning, communication, creative learning, self-esteem, social development, guidance, family relationships, program management, and professionalism.

Physical & Mental Requirements:

· Must be able to handle the physical demands of caring for children (i.e. ability to walk or run, kneel or sit on floor, bend and lift, walk over uneven ground, etc.)

· Ability to lift 50 pounds.

· Must be prepared to handle accidents and emergencies at any time.

· Must be able to walk the building (including staircases) and assist children.
