Job Description

Under the direction of the Vice President of Strategic Development, the Director of Healthy Living is responsible for the overall program content and expertise related to evidence based healthy living programs, including the management of related program partnerships and collaborations. The Director serves as the primary resource to all departments and branches related to chronic disease prevention, wellness support, and corporate membership wellness programs.

This important Association level position is on-site, working out of the New Berlin Association offices as part of a dynamic staff team, with some travel required to local branches and corporate partner locations.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in health education/health promotion, community health education, public health or related field is required.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years experience in health education programming and delivery including managing staff and/or volunteers is required.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills including proficient writing ability, public speaking/training, coaching/facilitating and active listening skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work collaboratively within and outside the organization.
  • Accomplished networking skills, preferably as it relates to medical providers, businesses, and community organizations.
  • Ability to manage project goals and objectives, people and tasks while displaying fiscal control, good judgment, decision-making, creativity, and initiative.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Essential Functions
  • Responsible for building relationships with branch and program leaders to promote, implement and facilitate Healthy Living Programs throughout the association.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with a broad spectrum of health and wellbeing stakeholders, including Ascension and other physician/medical groups and local and state health related coalitions and committees.
  • Build program referral networks, and champion all Y programs and services through developing rapport, active listening, negotiating, and collaborating with a wide range of professionals and organizational agendas.
  • Develop content and curriculum for healthy living programs, as well as program and instructor schedules.
  • Ensure healthy living programs are running as scheduled. Responsible for finding substitutes and, if needed, facilitating programs.
  • Responsible for the delivery of high-quality curriculum and member experience through successful education and behavior change strategies as they relate to all healthy living programming.
  • Obtain necessary certifications and or class experiences to teach and facilitate evidence based healthy living programs.
  • Create and execute plans related to program promotion, community outreach, communication, scheduling, enrollment, and outcome measurement, coordinate promotion with association marketing teams.
  • Work in partnership with Association Director of Membership/Corporate Membership and or Branch Executives to provide lunch and learn or educational sessions on related wellness and healthy living topics.
  • Assist in developing grant proposals, and if awarded, execute on promises, track progress, measure outcomes, and provide reports as required by funder.
  • Oversee nutrition related programs and content and develop cooking demonstration classes utilizing the New Berlin teaching kitchen.
  • Develop and manage budgets for assigned program areas.
  • Communicate with supervisor and team and participate in meetings as required.
  • Publicly represent the Y at all times and role model healthy lifestyles and the core values of honesty, caring, responsibility, and respect.
  • Participate in other Association activities or additional committees or initiatives as assigned by supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises employees in accordance with the association's policies, mission, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include hiring, training, and coaching performance, as well as assigning and directing work, and addressing employee issues.
