Major/Essential Functions
Provides medical care by interviewing, examining, and treating patients;
Educates patients on wellness, prevention and early detection by providing materials and resources to the patients and families;
Determines level of urgency of follow-up, referral/consultation appointments;
Prescribes medical treatment and clinical drugs to patients;
Orders studies, test and ancillary services;
Documents all services in patient medical record;
Consults with other departments and medical staff professionals as needed regarding patient care, assessment, and education issues;
Participates in quality improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs established by the hospital or clinic requirements;
Contributes to the university’s mission through teaching, patient care, research and service;
Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures;
Teaches internal medicine residents, outside rotators, NP's, PA's and medical students through lectures and in clinics/hospitals.
Giving lectures and teaching sessions to fellows, residents and medical students.
Occasional Duties
Providing coverage for faculty within the department as requested or needed.
Required Qualifications
Completion of, or in the process of completing an ACGME Internal Medicine Residency Program;
Must hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas;
Must hold or be eligible for ABIM board certification (or in training to become board eligible).
