Job Purpose
The Astronomy Guide is a site-based role and often the first point of contact guests have during astronomy tours and experiences. As such, this role is essential in creating a memorable, high-quality visitor experience. The Astronomy Guide must be personable, engaging, and knowledgeable, with a solid understanding of the solar system, stars, deep space, constellations, and the history of astronomy—particularly its local and cross-cultural significance.
The role is responsible for supporting the delivery and day-to-day operations of astronomy excursions across the destination.
Job Responsibilities
General

Report directly to the Senior Astronomy Guide and support the effective operation of astronomy tours and experiences.

Assist in developing operational procedures related to astronomy tours, events, festivals, and experiences.

Ensure astronomy structures and assets are maintained to a professional standard.

Operate across multiple destinations within The Red Sea.
Experience Development

Collaborate with the Astronomy team to design and deliver tours, events, festivals, and experiences.

Support cross-functional collaboration with RSG departments during the delivery phase to ensure operational objectives are met.

Gain familiarity with planned astronomy experiences, observation sites, and associated infrastructure.

Stay informed on applicable standards, procedures, and updates related to RSSE and astronomy operations.
Operational Delivery
-
Deliver educational, engaging, and entertaining stargazing programs covering astronomy science, history, and cultural narratives.

Guide guests through stargazing sessions, telescope observations, and astrophotography activities.

Provide historical and cultural insights into celestial objects, with a strong focus on Arabian astronomy and other global interpretations.

Engage with guests, address questions, and facilitate meaningful discussions to enhance learning and enjoyment.

Operate, set up, and maintain telescopes and binoculars.

Conduct routine equipment checks to ensure operational readiness.

Support the development and setup of Red Sea observatories and observation locations.

Assist in the planning and delivery of astronomy events and festivals.

Ensure all observatories and structures are fully equipped and operational prior to guest visits.

Coordinate with astronomy team members on program design, scheduling, equipment, and delivery.

Communicate regularly with RSSE senior management regarding schedules, guest feedback, site conditions, and logistics.

Work closely with Tour Assistants to prepare and dismantle equipment, ensuring smooth tour execution.

Adapt programs based on lunar phases, weather conditions, and operational requirements.

Remain current with astronomy discoveries, technologies, and local and international events to provide accurate, engaging content.

Job Requirements
Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Tourism, Hospitality, Business Management, Astronomy, Physics, Environmental Studies, or a related field.

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the tourism industry; experience in Saudi Arabia is an advantage.

Proven background or track record in astronomy-related activities.
-
Demonstrated achievements in guest satisfaction or astronomy programming.
-
Knowledge of astronomy tour concepts, practices, and procedures.
-
Experience using optical astronomy equipment for observation.
