PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provide instructional, technical, and administrative support to the At-Risk & Adult Welding Instructor by assisting with classroom and shop activities, ensuring a safe learning environment, supporting student success, and maintaining efficient program operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the instructor with classroom and shop instruction, including demonstrations, lab activities, and student support.
- Provide hands-on assistance to students with shop projects and classroom assignments.
- Supervise students in the shop and classroom as needed to ensure safety and productivity.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe learning environment, ensuring proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Monitor equipment and supply usage; assist with inventory management and ordering of materials.
- Provide administrative support, including maintaining student records, preparing reports, and utilizing computer-based systems as directed.
- Assist with tracking and evaluating student progress and using learning management systems and other software as needed (e.g. Dynamics, Tooling U, Microsoft Teams, etc).
- Assist with program evaluations and continuous improvement efforts.
- Obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR/AED certification, as this position serves as a primary on-site responder in emergency situations.
- Perform basic maintenance as needed, including identifying issues and submitting work orders for repairs requiring additional support.
- Open and close the Woodring facility as needed to support scheduled program activities and client usage outside of normal operating hours.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED required. Postsecondary or career/technical training in welding, metal fabrication, or a related technical field preferred.
CERTIFICATION: Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification required or ability to obtain within two weeks of employment.
SKILLS:
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, equipment, and safety procedures
- Ability to assist students with hands-on technical tasks and assignments
- Basic administrative skills (record-keeping, inventory management, report preparation)
- Ability to supervise students and maintain a safe learning environment
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Competence with basic computer applications and learning systems
EXPERIENCE: Recent hands-on experience in welding, metal fabrication, or a related technical field is required. Experience assisting or instructing in a classroom or shop environment is preferred.
PHYSICAL FACTORS:
- Position is based at Woodring Municipal Airport in Enid, OK
- Due to limited staffing, must be able to respond appropriately in emergency situations until additional assistance is available.
- Position is primarily in a shop-style classroom and lab environment.
- Physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, finger dexterity, feeling, hearing, near and far acuity, depth perception, field of vision (naturally or with correction), isolation, and eye-hand coordination. Lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
- Perform under stress when confronted with emergencies, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations, or situations in which working with speed and sustained attention are critical aspects of the job.
- Exposure to noise, welding fumes, dust, and variable air quality is expected.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including welding helmets, gloves, and protective clothing, is required.
