Advance your legal career while supporting one of Louisiana’s most critical public service programs as an Attorney with the Louisiana Department of Health. Based at headquarters within the Bureau of Legal Services, this role provides high-level legal support to the Office of Management and Finance and works closely with Medicaid program staff on complex federal and state Medicaid matters. You’ll serve as specialized legal counsel on Medicaid financial eligibility, appeals, and the Medicaid unwind, while contributing to high-impact litigation and department-wide legal initiatives. Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Serve as legal counsel to the Louisiana Department of Health by providing legal, consultative, and administrative support within the Bureau of Legal Services at headquarters.
  • Provide highly technical legal advice, assistance, and consultation to the Office of Management and Finance on matters involving federal and state Medicaid law, financial eligibility, and program operations.
  • Advise and support Medicaid Financial Eligibility, Medicaid Financial Eligibility Appeals, and Medicaid Unwind programs on legal issues, policy interpretation, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate extensively with Medicaid program staff to analyze legal issues, support program implementation, and resolve complex operational and regulatory challenges.
  • Assist with special litigation projects involving state or federal Medicaid matters, including cases with department-wide impact or significant legal or policy implications.
  • Research, analyze, and interpret applicable laws, regulations, and policies to support informed decision-making and ensure compliance across LDH programs and financial operations.

Compensation: This position is eligible for the following Special Entrance Rates (SER), as well as a Premium Pay of up to $2.00/hr for hours worked based on longevity.

Attorney 1 – $27.08 hr / $2,166.40 bi-weekly

Attorney 2 – $28.98 hr / $2,318.40 bi-weekly

Attorney 3 – $32.02 hr / $2,561.60 bi-weekly

Attorney 4 – $34.26 hr / $2,740.80 bi-weekly
