(Employees assigned to St. Louis Lambert International Airport may be eligible for a commuting allowance of $180.00 bi-weekly.)
The City Counselor’s Office seeks an experienced and collaborative attorney to join its Airport Unit. The Airport Unit manages a unique and dynamic portfolio of transactions and long-term projects as an in-house unit located at St. Louis Lambert International Airport.
Incumbents in this position handle complex legal work under general supervision in the Airport Unit of the City Counselor’s Office, and frequently interact with the Airport’s executive leadership and management.
This position is primarily responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, leases, ordinances, resolutions, policies, procedures, and other transactional, legislative, and administrative documents in compliance with state, federal, and local laws. In addition, this position will provide ongoing legal and strategic support for the Airport’s capital improvement programs, and may provide specialized support in one or more of the following areas: construction, land use, federal and state regulatory compliance, environmental matters, real estate transactions, and/or financial transactions.
Incumbents in this position may also be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and analyzing documents related to regulatory filings, labor and employment matters, environmental matters, litigation, and civil claims.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Graduation from a school of law approved by the American Bar Association; current membership in the Missouri Bar in good standing or licensure in another state with eligibility for reciprocity in Missouri; plus four years of active legal practice.
Preferences: At least two years of legal experience in one or more of the following areas: Regulatory Compliance and/or Compliance Monitoring, Environmental Law, Real Estate Transactions, Construction Law, Public Finance.
Airport and/or Aviation industry experience preferred.
Licensure: Documentation of license to practice law must be submitted with the Employment Application or upon request.

Veterans Preference Points

City Residence Preference Points
City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
