ATTORNEY III - District Attorney

Summary: This is an intermediate professional legal position performing legal services as a criminal prosecutor in the office of the District Attorney. Work involves prosecuting cases and providing support and guidance to a group of subordinate professional employees. This position includes assisting law enforcement agencies with criminal investigations and charging decisions. It also includes the prosecution of cases at all levels of the criminal system from Magisterial District Judge to Appellate level disposition. Trials before a jury or a judge are expected. This position is differentiated from similar positions in its class because of the responsibility to handle more serious criminal cases and an expectation that in this position, the employee will mentor less experienced prosecutors.

Duties: Essential job duties for this position include the following items. Other duties must be performed as assigned or required.


  • Performs legal research and prepares cases for trial or non-trial disposition as deemed appropriate.
  • Prepares, drafts, reviews, revises and approves search warrants, arrest warrants, motions, pleadings, and other legal documents.
  • Works with law enforcement agencies during criminal investigations to guide and assist the on-going investigation.
  • Prepares and presents witnesses and evidence to a county wide Grand Jury.
  • Evaluates criminal cases for appropriate disposition and provides guidance to subordinate attorneys in the office.
  • Prepares and presents misdemeanor and felony cases for jury trial.
  • Mentors, advises, and assists subordinate attorneys as needed.
