Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Attorney to join our legal team as a Partner. We will be forming a new DC PLLC for our boutique practice serving Higher Education executives (www.cotton.law). The ideal candidate will be granted an equity stake in the partnership.

The candidate must possess a strong understanding of various areas of law, including but not limited to estate planning, real estate law, employment law, and education law. This role requires excellent negotiation skills and the ability to represent clients effectively in litigation and other legal matters. The Attorney will be responsible for providing legal advice, drafting documents, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Duties

  • Provide legal counsel and representation to clients in various areas of law including estate planning, real estate law, employment law, and education law.
  • Conduct thorough legal research using tools such as LexisNexis and Westlaw to support case preparation.
  • Draft legal documents including contracts, wills, pleadings, and motions with precision.
  • Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients to achieve favorable outcomes.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings and during negotiations with opposing parties.
  • Maintain accurate records of all case-related activities and client communications.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and legal staff within the firm to ensure comprehensive client service.
  • Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations that may affect clients' cases.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of various areas of law including but not limited to estate planning, real estate law, employment law, and education law.
  • Proficient in legal research techniques using LexisNexis and Westlaw.
  • Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to advocate effectively for clients.
  • Strong writing skills for drafting clear and concise legal documents.
  • Experience in litigation processes and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Prior legal administrative experience is a plus.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $125.00 - $450.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 40 per week
