Audience Manager, Video

Description:

About The Tribune

The Salt Lake Tribune has been Utah's independent voice since 1871. We became the first legacy U.S. newspaper to transition to nonprofit status in 2019, helping to lead a national movement toward sustainable local journalism.

Today, we continue to expand our reach across Utah through innovative reporting, strong community engagement, and new local initiatives. Our video team has been breaking records and winning awards - and now we're looking for the right person to do more of this groundbreaking work.

The Role

As a community-supported nonprofit, our mission is to reach Utahns with the essential news and information they need - no matter where they are. This new position will help us reach more people on video platforms like YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. That work will take multiple formats - it might be a long, evergreen YouTube video or a 30-second Instagram live story. It might be a TikTok skit one day and editing a podcast trailer the next. Some of your videos will come from other parts of the newsroom, while others will be your own pitches. The important part is that this person is creative, energetic and passionate about making news engaging and accessible.

This is a full-time, salaried, benefits-eligible position. This is a hybrid role, with at least 2 days per week in office and travel around Utah as needed. This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between The Salt Lake Tribune and The Denver Newspaper Guild.

What You'll Do

  • Produce, edit and publish video content across YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and other platforms
  • Develop platform-specific strategies to grow Tribune audiences and engagement
  • Shepherd video projects from pitch to post-production, ensuring high editorial standards
  • Write clear, concise, and engaging scripts that reflect The Tribune's tone and accuracy
  • Optimize titles, descriptions, thumbnails and metadata for SEO and platform discoverability
  • Identify trends and best practices across platforms and apply them strategically
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors to integrate video into newsroom workflows
  • Appear on camera when appropriate, delivering news in an engaging and accessible way
  • Help experiment with monetization opportunities, including YouTube growth strategies

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary of $60,000 - $65,000, based on experience
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Paid time off, sick leave, and paid parental leave
  • Employer-paid life insurance, short-term & long-term disability
  • Flexible hours and hybrid work options
  • Cellphone stipend + mileage reimbursement
  • Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility for qualified employees
