Job Summary
Performs entry-level multimedia operations and production work. This position works with digital audio recordings and digitizes analog recordings converted to digital files, performing routine navigational pointer mark-up making these files ready for duplication and distribution on cartridge and via NLS Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD). This position requires the ability to multitask, the ability to maintain a high level of staff service, good organizational and computer skills, and the ability to handle pressure situations and meet deadlines. The Audio Technician I work under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Tasks
Performs routine clean-up and navigational pointer mark-up of digital audio file masters.
Performs systematic quality control and adjustment of digitized masters.
Assists in the recording studio, including review of materials and monitoring of recording sessions.
Performs other duties as assigned
Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
Complies with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety, standards of conduct, and dress code.


Qualifications


Veterans, Reservist or Guardsmen with an MOS or additional duties that fall in the fields (No MOS) pertaining to the minimum experience requirements may meet the minimum qualifications for this position and are highly encouraged to apply. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Experience using a computer and standard software packages.
Manual dexterity and visual and audio acuity.

Preferred Qualifications
College coursework in appropriate fields, such as Radio Television, and Film; Multimedia; Broadcasting; computer Science; or a relevant field.
Experience using recording equipment (analog and/or digital).
Experience with professional audio recording and editing software (SoundForge, Izotope RX, APH Studio Recorder, Hindenburg ABC)
Experience working in a recording studio environment.
Experience in spoken word recording.
Experience using database software.
Experience working in an automated library environment.
Experience working in a talking book program library.
Experience working with volunteers.
Spanish language fluency

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to work independently and to assume responsibility.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to work steadily under pressure to keep up with work schedules and heavy production loads.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to sit at a computer workstation for long periods.

Environmental/Physical Conditions
Normal office work environment. May have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve moving; standing; remaining stationary for long periods of time; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping and bending; and safely moving items weighing up to 50 pounds. Work involves extensive telephone usage and repetitive motions while operating the computer. Normal cognitive abilities include the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies.

Reporting Relationships
Works under the supervision of the Program Engagement Manager.
This position does not supervise any staff.
