Auto Damage Appraiser, Southern CT

The Auto Damage Appraiser is responsible for inspecting vehicle damage, preparing accurate repair estimates, and negotiating claim settlements along the Connecticut shoreline (I-95 corridor from New Haven to Stamford/Greenwich). This is a field-based role requiring daily travel, strong customer service skills, and the ability to work independently while managing claim costs effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect vehicle damage and prepare detailed repair estimates
  • Negotiate and settle partial and total loss claims within authority limits
  • Issue payments to appropriate parties
  • Maintain accurate and timely claim documentation
  • Complete re-inspections and supplemental estimates in compliance with state regulations
  • Serve as a liaison with body shops in the network
  • Ensure adherence to estimating guidelines, production standards, and expense control measures
  • Deliver excellent customer service and maintain strong public relations
  • Handle recovered theft and fire claim reports
  • Participate in team meetings and catastrophe (CAT) response when needed, including travel

Qualifications

  • Valid Connecticut Auto Damage Appraiser License (required)
  • 1–3 years of auto appraisal or claims experience
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Mechanical aptitude; body shop experience is a plus
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and inspecting vehicles in tight or challenging environments
  • Willingness to travel, including extended stays, for catastrophe claim assignments
  • Must have easy access to and be able to travel daily along the I-95 corridor in Connecticut

The pay range for this position is $61,500- $79,000 annually. Actual compensation will vary based on multiple factors, including employee knowledge and experience, role scope, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.
