Auto Electrician - UG

About This Role

This role will be responsible for the daily electrical maintenance and servicing of Mobile Equipment to enhance equipment performance and availability at the Underground Mobile Maintenance Section.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance with relevant Safety, Mining, and statutory codes and regulations at the workplace.
  • Adhere to all site safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Underground mobile equipment in accordance with established maintenance standards.
  • Investigate, diagnose and perform electrical maintenance and repair of Mobile equipment and machinery according to the Company's work management practices and participate in Root Cause Analysis of failures when required.
  • Read electrical schematics & diagrams and trace electrical failures on all Underground Mobile Equipment.
  • Report all defects and breakdowns on equipment /machinery and provide relevant feedback to the supervisor and co-workers regarding equipment performance and conditions.
  • Attend to defects raised on pre-start reports, breakdown and inspection reports to ensure availability of machinery and cost compliance.
  • Conduct job safety analysis to identify and isolate any hazards energy, LOTOTO (lock-out, try-out, tag-out), working at heights, confined spaces, etc. prior to undertaking any task.
  • Assist with preventative, predictive, and corrective equipment maintenance; reviews operation of mobile equipment and systems to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate problems and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping at your work area.
  • Assist in the development and review of the process operations Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Report all incidents, accidents, near misses, emergency response protocols and first aid events to Supervisors as soon as possible.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies


  • Bachelor's Degree or HND in Automotive Engineering / Technician II or III or a related technical field.
  • Relevant Trade Certification in Auto Electrical disciplines.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a mining mobile maintenance field preferably working knowledge on underground mobile equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of site safety, health and environmental regulations pertaining to mobile equipment maintenance in a mining environment.
  • In-depth knowledge in Preventive & Predictive Maintenance processes on mobile equipment.
  • Possess adequate craft knowledge and skill to accurately estimate labor hours, material requirement and skills needed to complete a job. Must have a demonstrated ability to visualize and communicate the execution of work.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings, parts books and service manuals (including specifications) for Company Equipment and plan jobs in coordination with colleagues.
  • Ability to conduct shift handover, detailing all relevant information correctly in the logbooks.
  • Assist with preventative, predictive, and corrective equipment maintenance; reviews operation of mobile equipment and systems to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate problems and identify opportunities for improvement.
