Are you energized by transforming how millions of customers engage with a brand? Principal Financial Group is seeking an AVP, Digital Experience to reimagine and elevate the way customers connect with us across web, mobile, and emerging digital channels.
In this highly visible role, you will sit at the intersection of customer experience, technology, and business strategy—leading the vision, strategy, and execution of intuitive, impactful digital journeys for both B2B and B2C audiences.
You’ll shape the future of our enterprise digital platforms, bringing together product management, UX, content, search, and AI-enabled capabilities into a unified experience strategy that strengthens engagement, improves customer experience , and enhances customer loyalty.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Champion a unified digital experience strategy

Define the approach across enterprise web, mobile, app, and omnichannel touchpoints.

Coordinate product and content roadmaps with enterprise priorities, marketing campaigns, earned media efforts, and SEO/organic growth strategies.
Own and optimize end-to-end customer journeys

Ensure digital experiences are seamless, accessible, personalized, and consistent across platforms.

Leverage UX research, VOC insights, design systems, and content strategy to remove friction and drive delight.
Lead and scale high-performing agile teams

Guide multidisciplinary agile product management, UX, and content squads delivering incremental value.

Drive agile maturity across teams using metrics like velocity, predictability, and quality.
Strengthen content excellence and governance

Oversee content strategy and CMS governance to ensure alignment with SEO best practices, brand voice, and localization needs.

Partner closely with marketing to support omnichannel alignment and elevate accessibility and inclusion.
Advance digital performance through analytics & experimentation

Establish dashboards for product and content performance.

Implement continuous discovery practices and experimentation frameworks (A/B and multivariate testing) to validate ideas and accelerate optimization.
Drive governance and cross-enterprise alignment

Lead digital experience governance and participate in CX and product leadership councils.

Maintain strong partnerships across marketing, tech, VOC, communications, and PR to bring customer insights into digital strategy.

Ensure adherence to risk, privacy, compliance, and accessibility standards.
Elevate team culture & leadership impact

Support product managers and web strategists through coaching and thought leadership.

Foster a culture of innovation, transparency, and design excellence.

Provide clear communication and strategic counsel to senior leadership on digital experience performance, opportunities, and future innovation.
Who You Are:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
-
12+ years leading digital strategy, product management, UX/UI, or human-centered design.
-
A strategic problem solver with a proven ability to build impactful digital visions and roadmap execution.
-
Experienced in managing cross-functional teams, external partners, and large-scale digital ecosystems.

Skilled in agile (SAFe preferred), with the ability to translate across business, design, and technical domains.

Strong understanding of CMS platforms, analytics tools, personalization, SEO, and modern AI platforms.
-
Experience integrating AI into digital workflows and experience design.
-
Proven track record driving measurable improvements in engagement, conversion, usability, or operational efficiency.

Excellent collaborator and communicator across marketing, tech, data, product, and compliance.

Experience working in complex, federated, or multi-brand environments is a plus.

Salary Range Information: Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Salary Range: $153000 - $207000 / year Time Off Program: Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided. Pension Eligible: Yes Additional Information:
