AVP/CFO (Health and Human Services)

A top client is currently searching for an experienced remote-based Assistant Vice President/CFO (Non-profit) in Chicago, IL, to independently lead client engagements and set a clear vision for the development of the relationship by establishing and executing a client relationship strategy that allows the client to achieve their financial goals and objectives.
As the AVP/CFO, you will also manage the full cycle accounting functions of multiple clients, including but not limited to: financial statements, cash management, and other services while serving as the brand ambassador of the company. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working in a strategic and hands-on capacity.

As the AVP/CFO, you will:

• Act as Director of Accounting or CFO for multiple client engagements
• Deliver accurate and timely financial statements, providing coaching and counseling to stakeholders and operations managers in order to help improve margins and impact their bottom line.
• Discuss monthly financial statements, plans, and schedules as applicable with client.
• Lead the budget process and incorporate periodic analytics.
• Execute contract terms and scope to ensure financial profitability for the existing client(s) portfolio.
• Renegotiate all contract extensions, including pricing, along with the Vice President and Senior Vice President.
• Work closely with clients to solve issues related to complicated financial statement situations.
• Monitor finances to aid clients in functioning within those guidelines, and provide financial analysis and advice to clients.
• Establish a relationship with the client to obtain all necessary documentation in a timely manner in order to meet the contractual delivery timeline for all services.
• Work with the internal finance team to ensure clients are appropriately invoiced on a monthly basis.
• Provide leadership, mentoring, and guidance to the cross-functional teams aligned to a particular client delivery process.
• Address client concerns and issues to ensure they are resolved in a timely manner and dealt with according to client satisfaction.
• Build and maintain relationships by gaining insights into the client business to become a trusted advisor.
• Provide executive-level partnership by presenting Quarterly Business Reviews (QBR) in conjunction with the division VP, if applicable. Participate as requested by the client in their Board or other executive-level meetings.
• Responsible for achieving NFP Run the Business (RTB) P&L for each individual account in your responsible vertical. Demonstrate budgeted margin for all clients within the vertical or actionable plans to achieve desired profitability. Performs monthly projections with the leadership team.
• Responsible for revenue and SARG targets being achieved and proactively drives revenue maximization through the clients. Monitor and track SARG opportunities presented and ensure that all clients are contacted. Advise Vice President when circumstances jeopardize achievement of the revenue and SARG targets.

In order to be successful in the role, you must possess:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (Master’s preferred)
• At least ten years of accounting experience and ability to communicate with key stakeholders and C-level executives.
• Experience with government-funded programs
• Experience with health and human service organizations
• Nonprofit experience
• Grant Experience: federal grant administration/management experience, State of Illinois grant administration / GATA experience
• Experience with CFS, DCFS, DHS, IL DMH, City of Chicago DFSS, ICJIA, IL DCEO preferred
• Experience with accounting and payroll databases (QuickBooks Online, Intacct, and Financial Edge preferred)
• CPA is preferred
• Must be willing to travel (as applicable)
