Key Responsibilities
Clinical Practice and Patient Care
- Consultation & Diagnosis: Conduct detailed patient history, physical examinations, and arrive at an accurate Ayurvedic diagnosis (e.g., Prakriti, Vikriti, Dhatu Sarata assessment).
- Treatment Planning: Formulate comprehensive, individualized treatment plans, including Ayurvedic medicine (aushadhi), Panchakarma therapies (if applicable), dietary (Aahara) and lifestyle (Vihara) modifications, and Yoga/Pranayama recommendations.
- Therapy Supervision: Closely monitor and supervise the administration of specialized treatments, such as Panchakarma (Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya, Raktamokshana), ensuring the safety, efficacy, and hygiene of procedures.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work in close consultation with allopathic (modern medicine) doctors and other specialists to provide integrated care for complex cases, ensuring holistic patient management.
- Patient Education: Educate patients and their families on the nature of their illness, the rationale for the prescribed Ayurvedic treatment, and expected outcomes, promoting self-care.
Quality Assurance and NABH Compliance
- Documentation: Maintain meticulous, legible, and comprehensive Electronic Health Records (EHR) and clinical documentation in compliance with NABH standards for completeness, legibility, identification, and format (e.g., SOAP notes).
- Infection Control: Adhere strictly to the hospital's Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) policies, especially regarding the use of herbs, oils, and equipment used in therapy.
- Safety Protocols: Ensure patient and staff safety by complying with NABH-mandated protocols for medication management, safe use of medical equipment, and reporting of adverse events or near misses.
- Quality Indicators: Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement (QI) initiatives, and NABH-related training programs to continually enhance the quality of Ayurvedic services.
- Statutory Compliance: Ensure all clinical practices comply with regulatory requirements from the Ministry of AYUSH, state medical boards, and all applicable healthcare laws.
Administrative and Other Duties
- Inventory: Monitor and manage the inventory of Ayurvedic medicines, raw materials, and oils, ensuring proper storage and quality control.
- Training: Provide basic training and supervision to Ayurvedic therapists and nursing staff on the correct methods of treatment application and patient handling.
- Emergency Response: Be prepared to assist in basic emergency care situations as part of the hospital's overall response team, within the scope of practice.
Qualifications and Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree from a recognized institution.
- Registration: Valid registration with the relevant State/Central Council of Indian Medicine/Ayurveda.
- Experience: Minimum of 4 to 7 years of post-qualification clinical experience, preferably in a wellness / hospital setting.
- NABH Exposure: Demonstrable knowledge and experience of working within a quality framework, preferably in an NABH or JCI accredited/certified hospital.
Desired Skills and Competencies
- Clinical Acumen: Strong diagnostic and therapeutic skills in classical Ayurveda.
- NABH Standard Awareness: In-depth understanding of the NABH standards applicable to Clinical Services (COP) and Quality Indicators.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and [Local Language, if necessary].
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Ethics: High ethical standards, professionalism, and a patient-first approach.
