Transfer Station Equipment Operator

We are currently accepting applications for our Transfer Station Equipment Operator at our Redwood Avenue Transfer Station.

This position’s primary responsibility is operating a back hoe 5 days a week.

  • Operate, drive, and control heavy equipment.
  • Have complete knowledge of machine settings.
  • Check and maintain equipment functionality often.
  • Perform Pre-Trip and Post Trip Inspections
  • Perform a variety of general labor tasks as required for the job.

The ideal candidate demonstrates a high level of self-initiation, is eager to jump in and help wherever needed, has the attitude that no job is too small, is comfortable with basic mental math, is safety oriented and above all understands the needs of the customer and strives to expediently serve each customer with courtesy and respect.

This is a physical position. Candidates must be able to stand for many hours, lift loads and withstand an outdoor environment for the full shift. This position has the possibility of exposing the candidate to hazardous noise levels, chemicals, fumes, and machinery.

A valid, driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required for this position.

Requirements:

Competencies

  • Must be able to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle and/or passenger vehicle(s).
  • Know and follow traffic laws and vehicle/equipment handling guidelines

  • Must exercise good judgement in decisions
  • Must be self-motivated and self-disciplined to stay on task without direct supervision

Physical Demands

  • Climbing into vehicles including ascending ladders with 3 pt. contact
  • Stand upright and maneuver containers weighing up to 51 lbs
  • Lifting empty containers weighing up to 40 lbs
  • Bending and lifting to remove debris with the use of shovels, rakes and other maintenance tools
  • Operating Truck controls both inside and outside vehicle
  • Communicating with office staff regarding in-the-moment needs during route-must be able to effectively exchange accurate information and feedback

Must be able to see issues related to vehicle safety and performance, as well as printed information sheets.
