Backend / Data Engineer – MVNO Telecom (Azure, Italian Speaking) – Remote (1099 Contractor)

We are a U.S.-based mobile telecommunications company with Italian ownership. As we expand our footprint in the MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) sector, we are seeking a skilled Backend / Data Engineer to support the development, integration, and evolution of our telecom data platforms and digital services.

This role focuses on managing high-volume telecom data (CDR – Call Detail Records), backend services, and cloud infrastructure on Microsoft Azure. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with data pipelines, API integrations, and distributed systems in a telecom or similar data-intensive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage ingestion, parsing, validation, and processing of telecom data (CDR) received via file-based systems (FTP/SFTP)
• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and REST APIs for internal systems and customer-facing applications (MyArea)
• Integrate telecom platforms, billing systems, and third-party services
• Support and evolve systems hosted on Microsoft Azure, including data pipelines, storage, and processing services
• Design and improve batch data processing pipelines, ensuring scalability, reliability, and data consistency
• Identify and resolve issues such as data inconsistencies, duplicates, delays, and performance bottlenecks
• Communicate technical updates, requirements, and progress in Italian when needed

Requirements:

• Native or bilingual proficiency in Italian and professional fluency in English
• Strong experience with backend development (.NET / C#)
• Experience with REST API development and integrations
• Experience with data pipelines and data processing systems
• Experience with Microsoft Azure (or similar cloud platforms)
• Experience working with high-volume data systems
• Experience with file-based ingestion (FTP/SFTP, batch processing)
• Ability to handle real-world data issues (duplicates, missing data, delays)
• Understanding of distributed systems and data flows

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in telecommunications or MVNO platforms
• Experience with CDR or similar usage/event data
• Experience with Azure DevOps or CI/CD pipelines
• Familiarity with streaming technologies (Kafka, Event Hub)
• Knowledge of data validation, reconciliation, and billing-related systems

Legal Information:

This is an Independent Contractor (1099) position. You will not be an employee of the company. As a contractor, you are responsible for your own taxes, insurance, and equipment.
