Backend Developer (Mobility Assignment - Internal Hennepin County applicants only)

Description

The Digital Experience (DX) department is seeking two Backend Developers for Hennepin County’s content management system, Sitecore. As a member of DX, the individuals in these positions will manage and support the county’s website in partnership with the Web Infrastructure team (IT department) and the Web Communications team (Communications department).

Location and hours:
These positions are hybrid and will be performed at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487 and remote as job duties require. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. While these positions are designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

About these positions type:
These are full-time, benefit earning mobility assignments. You must be a current regular or probationary employee of Hennepin County to apply for these positions. Limited duration employees are not eligible.
These positions are internally classified as an Information Technology (IT) Developer II.

These positions are job mobility assignments that includes participation for up to 12 months, with the possibility of extension up to 24 months. A mobility assignment is a voluntary job change to a different department that is filled by a regular or probationary employee to carry out the duties of the same or a different job class. Hennepin County mobility assignments allow employees to develop a particular expertise and prepare for promotional opportunities as well as facilitate, support, and accelerate knowledge transfer across departments. Job mobility assignments are temporary; employees typically return to their original department at the conclusion of their mobility assignment.

The hiring department may opt to include all employees in lower/higher pay ranges.

In these positions, you will
:
  • Develop and maintain reusable components, templates, and interfaces in alignment with headless architecture.
  • Develop customizations to meet enterprise brand standards and deliver a consistent, accessible, and user-centered experience.
  • Troubleshoot issues and develop fixes in response to incidents and service requests.
  • Configure workflows to manage the content creation, review, and publishing process.
  • Perform system monitoring, maintenance, and stabilization including cleaning up databases, reviewing logs, scheduling jobs, and managing workflows and queues.
  • Partner with content designers, user experience designers, and front-end developers.

Need to have:
  • One of the following:
    • Four years or more of technology experience.
    • An approved information technology certificate and two years or more of IT experience.
    • Completion of five college/vocational technical technology courses and two years or more of IT experience.
    • Completion of an approved IT Hennepin County internship and two years or more of information technology experience.
    • Two-year college/vocational technical degree in a technology field and two years or more of IT experience.
    • Bachelor's degree in a technology field and one year or more of information technology experience.
Nice to have:
  • Sitecore developer certification.
  • Experience working with:
    • Sitecore 10.x or other content management system (CMS).
    • React/Next.js.
    • Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and Docker Desktop.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Digital accessibility standards, such as Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
    • Headless architecture.
  • Ability to:
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and partnerships.
    • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with technical and non-technical colleagues.
    • Think critically and solve problems.
    • Prioritize and manage competing projects and tasks.

The Digital Experience department partners with lines of business to improve the digital service experience for the Hennepin County community. A digital experience (DX) is the culmination of resident interactions made possible via technology (i.e., website, form, survey, chat, phone, social media).
