Backend Team Leader

We are looking for a Backend Lead who thrives in a fast-paced product environment and knows how to balance strong technical execution with effective people leadership. This role is for someone who can architect scalable backend systems, drive engineering standards, and grow a high-performing team, all while staying hands-on. You will work across Wuzzuf and Forasna, two of Egypt's leading hiring platforms, with more products to come. RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and mentor the backend engineering team; set technical direction, priorities, and best practices.
• Architect and oversee the development of scalable, high-performance backend systems across multiple products.
• Drive code quality through design reviews, code reviews, and engineering standards.
• Manage team performance and growth, set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and support career development.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Data, and Scrum teams to deliver reliable, well-integrated backend solutions.
• Identify and resolve technical bottlenecks, system risks, and performance issues proactively.
• Contribute hands-on to development when needed, while maintaining a strategic view of the overall architecture.
  
  
  

REQUIREMENTS

• 5+ years of backend development experience, with 2–3+ years in a tech lead or team lead role.
• Strong proficiency in PHP and MySQL; hands-on experience with Laravel or Symfony.
• Solid understanding of Docker and containerized environments.
• Proven ability to lead teams technically and manage people, not just code.
• Experience working in a product-based company (preferably with consumer-facing platforms at scale).
• Strong problem-solving mindset with a track record of owning and resolving complex technical challenges.
• Good communication and stakeholder management skills, comfortable working cross-functionally.
• Experience working across multiple tech stacks or migrating/integrating legacy systems.
• Background in high-traffic, marketplace, or job-tech platforms.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and working with data and product teams.
• Experience building or scaling backend engineering teams from the ground up.
