Under immediate supervision, performs background investigations on potential department employees.
Education
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED and experience with law enforcement work.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Investigative and interview skills, NC General Statutes, Labor Laws as related to hiring, Background Investigation procedures, Knowledge of resources available for conducting background investigations, Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act. Computer, typewriter, tape recorder, e-mail, voicemail. Must be able to communicate orally and written with good concise English skills.
Knowledge of investigative techniques, interview techniques and resources used in background investigations. Prepares comprehensive background investigation reports detailing the results of completed background investigations. Explains application process to potential applicants and provides potential applicants with application material. Schedules testing appointments for potential employees.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires speaking or hearing and occasionally requires standing and walking; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities; work is in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
