Baggage Handling System (BHS) Specialist

Role Summary

A BHS Specialist is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of Baggage Handling Systems in airport environments. They ensure the system operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with airport regulations and security standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Design & Integration: Assist in the planning and layout of BHS components (conveyors, scanners, sorters, etc.) to optimize flow and efficiency.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborate with vendors, airport authorities, and other stakeholders during installation and commissioning.
  • Testing & Commissioning: Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and operational readiness testing.
  • Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Identify and resolve operational issues; coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to IATA standards, airport regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Documentation: Maintain up-to-date technical documents, manuals, and system reports.
Experience Requirements
  • Hands on experience in BHS installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with PLC/SCADA systems, barcode/RFID scanners, and automated sorting technology.
  • Prior involvement in large scale airport projects is a strong advantage.
  • Understanding of baggage flow simulations and system throughput optimization.
