Inova Fair Oaks is seeking a Bariatric Fellow for the upcoming 2026-2027 year. The Surgical Fellow learns and practices medical care to perioperative patients in a supportive and collaborative environment. The Surgical Fellow works closely with experienced surgeons and learns advanced surgical techniques, providing the Surgical Fellow with valuable experience and skills necessary to pursue a rewarding career in medicine.

The program includes simultaneous clinical and research responsibility.

The objectives are to develop a bariatric and advanced minimally invasive surgeon that can assume complete responsibility for the preoperative, operative, and postoperative surgical care of the general surgery patient undergoing minimally invasive surgery and the morbidly obese patient. Accomplishing this primary objective involves a knowledge and understanding of bariatric surgical physiology, behavioral, dietary, and nutritional approach to the bariatric patient, and the associated social and financial dynamics.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: MD or DO Degree
  • Experience : Board Certified/Board Eligible Bariatrics
  • Licensure: Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Virginia.
  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) upon start
  • Payer Credentialing: Ability to successfully complete the credentialing process by third-party payors and Ability to enrolled as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor
  • Medical Staff Credentialing : Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges sufficient to perform all required services
