Southdown Coffee is a growing small business with seven locations. Over the years we have built a loyal following through dedication to consistency and quality customer service. In 2019, Food and Wine, named us one of the top 100 coffee shops in the country, and our founder, Mark Boccard, placed 3rd in the Nation at the US Roaster’s Championship.

Position Summary:

As a barista you will be responsible for making consistent, high quality drinks, preparing our delicious food, ensuring a clean environment, and most importantly making sure our customers are happy!

Essential Job Functions:

A successful barista will create a fantastic customer experience and deliver unparalleled service and products.

  • Baristas are responsible for providing the absolute best client experience possible. It is our goal to foster a work culture that truly values our customers and our employees alike.
  • Serving our guests in a polite, efficient, and quality-driven manner.
  • Greet customers, answer questions, and suggest products to enhance service and sales.
  • Responsible for learning and maintaining company standards and protocols as well as adhering to Southdown’s recipe and presentation standards.
  • Ensure top notch quality of products for customers, including beverages, whole bean, and food items.
  • Contributes to a positive team environment.
  • Maintain cleanliness of customer service area and equipment.
  • Follow health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products.
  • Follow standards for merchandising, stocking, rotating, and storing all products.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
  • Take orders while paying attention to details.
  • Receive and process payments (cash and credit cards).
  • Communicate customer feedback to managers and recommend new menu items.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned by manager.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to work as a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job
  • Easy to communicate with and works well with management and other co-workers
  • Previous work experience as a Barista, Server, or Cashier
  • It is a plus if you have experience with specialty coffee as it exists today. Being proficient in latte art, coffee tasting, brewing science, and demonstrating speed and accuracy on the espresso machine are very useful skills.
