Barista

Michelangelo's Coffee House—an independently-owned café located at the top of State Street—is seeking enthusiastic and dependable Baristas to join our team. We are looking for part-time (minimum 16 hours/week) to full-time candidates with a passion for coffee and desire to connect with the community in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Established in 1997, Michelangelo's Coffee House is an independently-owned café with a passion for serving Madison’s downtown community with a personal and positive experience. Featuring socially conscious, Fair Trade Certified coffees in addition to sandwiches, soups, and homemade desserts, Michelangelo's prides itself on prompt, friendly, and efficient customer service and values the relationships we have built between our customers and teammates over the years.

Responsibilities Include:

• Creating a welcoming and efficient customer service experience for all.
• Ringing up food and beverage orders through our point of sale system, ensuring transactions are processed efficiently and accurately.
• Producing a consistent and high-quality product through brewing coffee and teas, crafting espresso and specialty drinks, and food preparation.
• Upholding our store cleanliness and organization standards—both front of house and back of house. General cleaning tasks, restocking, and proper knowledge of food safety are a must.
• Assisting with opening and closing the store following company procedures.

Position Requirements:

• Excellent verbal communication and organizational skills. Eager to create a memorable experience, hospitable, and anticipates needs of both customers and teammates.
• Maintaining a strong level of professionalism, respect, and integrity while representing the store.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and being on your feet for the duration of your shift. Must demonstrate the ability to multitask, maintain a sense of urgency, rise to challenges, and be accountable for your work.
• Previous barista experience preferred; prior food service industry experience or equivalent experience (≥1 year) is required.
• A minimum of 16 hours/week commitment is expected. Full-time and part-time positions available.
• Flexible availability, including mornings, afternoons, and evenings on both weekdays and weekends.

Compensation and Benefits:

• Barista compensation starts between $10 - $12/hour base wage with tips ranging from $6 - $20+/hour (averaging $10/hour). Starting base wage is negotiable based on prior experience.
