Bartender/Server in Carrboro

This is a part-time, Bartender/Server position. Shifts are set between two to four Bartenders, so as to provide coverage during all hours of service. The duties set forth for this role include all of the regular duties of a bartender/server.

Haw River Tap and Table in Carrboro is a retail location serving Haw River Farmhouse Ales beer and casual food. We are currently looking to add experienced, professional lead bartenders to our team. Bartending /server duties:

  • Sell and provide draft beer and other beverages, packaged beer, taproom food menu items and merchandise to taproom guests
  • Service guests in the taproom during their visit, including running food, clearing tables, upselling items, general customer service
  • Assist in set-up and breakdown of events in the taproom, as well as providing service to event attendees including serving beverages, running food, clearing tables and general customer service
  • Maintain a clean bar, taproom, outdoor seating area, restrooms and general service area
  • Wash, sanitize and organize glassware
  • Familiarize yourself with ingredients in each of the menu items in order to easily advise guests and patrons on the food menu as well as being able to visually identify all menu items and check accuracy of orders during service
  • Participate in educational training sessions or materials provided (beer brand manual, updated food menus) pertaining to new beers and food to then be able to educate guests about Haw River beers, food and other offerings
  • Clean draft lines and change kegs as needed for service
  • Answer the phone, route requests to proper channels
  • Assist in maintaining proper inventory of merchandise, supplies and consumables
  • Perform the necessary duties in conjunction with the Lead Bartender-on-duty to open/close the taproom to standards
  • Successfully acquire Certified Beer Server certificate
  • Handle cash transactions and operate a point-of-sale (POS) system
  • Monitor customer behavior and ensure responsible alcohol consumption
  • Complete all tasks associated with keg changes such as line cleaning; tap handles; menu changes; and tap new kegs.
  • Complete tasks such as juicing citrus fruit; stocking the bar; refilling ice; cleaning mats; sweeping and mopping; and other necessary tasks.
  • Contribute to the overall cleanliness and organization of the bar, keg cooler and backstock through daily opening and closing duties; weekly/daily side work assignments and other necessary or assigned tasks.
  • Attend any staff meetings as needed and alcohol service training courses as required.
  • Communicate relevant service information to fellow servers and owner management, when needed.
  • Adhere to the standards set forth in the Employee Handbook.
