Behavioral Health Counselor

Duties

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, including intake interviews and diagnostic evaluations utilizing ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems to ensure accurate clinical documentation.
  • Deliver individual, group, and family therapy sessions employing evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, applied behavior analysis (ABA), art therapy, and grief counseling.
  • Implement crisis management strategies to de-escalate situations involving mental health emergencies or behavioral crises, ensuring patient safety and appropriate intervention.
  • Facilitate specialized counseling for populations with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, PTSD, chronic pain conditions, addiction issues, gender identity concerns, and geriatrics.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop personalized treatment plans that incorporate social work principles, case management techniques, and medical terminology understanding.
  • Maintain HIPAA-compliant medical records and document all patient interactions thoroughly using medical documentation standards while adhering to CPT coding for billing purposes.
  • Participate in clinical research initiatives and data collection efforts to improve treatment outcomes and contribute to the advancement of behavioral health practices.

Experience

  • Proven experience providing psychotherapy or mental health counseling in outpatient or inpatient settings with a focus on diverse client populations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in crisis intervention, crisis management, behavior management, and working with individuals with disabilities or autism spectrum disorder.
  • Familiarity with ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems for diagnostic evaluation and medical recordkeeping; telehealth experience is highly desirable.
  • Background in working with children and families through child & family counseling or special education programs; experience in pediatrics or geriatrics is a plus.
  • Knowledge of psychopharmacology principles relevant to behavioral health treatment.
  • Strong skills in social work practices, patient assessment techniques, addiction counseling strategies, and trauma-informed care including PTSD care.
