Job Description
Greets patients professionally and registers them into the practice management system, verifying demographic and insurance information. Communicates clearly and appropriately with co-workers, physicians, and practice supervisors. Performs clerical duties to support office operations. Explains billing policies, collects co-payments, and refers uninsured patients to the office/clinic manager as needed. Schedules new and return appointments, explains the registration process, and provides directions to new patients. Answers telephone calls in a professional and courteous manner, takes messages, and directs calls to appropriate staff members. Maintains good working relationships with office/clinic staff members and physicians. Assists in the facilitation of outpatient groups and writes notes in cooperation with the provider. Provides emotional support to patients, including behavioral health crisis management, and diffuses situations where patients may want to harm themselves or others. Coordinates medical care on the phone, collaborating with other healthcare specialists regarding patient care. Communicates with providers about patient progress and concerns, assists with facilitation of IOP, processes referrals, and obtains prior authorizations. Other duties as assigned.
