Counseling
Implementation of a comprehensive and developmental guidance and counseling curriculum to assist all students
Provide individual and/or group counseling services to meet the developmental, preventive, and remedial needs of students. Services included but not limited to:
Home and family relations
Peer relations
School performance
Health and emotional development
Demonstrate knowledge of counseling theories by selecting appropriate models and techniques for individual and group counseling
Apply appropriate assessment and diagnostic procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling services
Perform liaison service between parents, teachers, students and outside agencies whenever this assistance is appropriate
Provide follow-up counseling/consultation to monitor students’ conditions
Program Planning
Establishes the school counseling program and develop activities and resources for implementation as well as conducting on-going evaluation of the program
Initiate and coordinates school-wide guidance and counseling activities
Manage time effectively and provides services on schedule
Maintain an organized, functional, and up-to-date office/counseling center
Seek input from teachers and staff in making decisions about the school counseling program
Coordinate ongoing systemic activities designed to help students establish personal goals and develop future plans
Consulting
Demonstrates knowledge of consulting processes and techniques with students, parents, teachers, and administrators
Assists parents and teachers in understanding and responding to developmental levels of students
Presents instructional/informational programs to groups of students, parents, and teachers (e.g., parent education programs, group guidance, etc)
Coordinate a variety of events and programs (e.g. student assessments, classroom presentations, career fairs; college visits; fieldtrips, student placement and follow up, teacher and counselor in-services, self esteem programs, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the smooth transition from middle school to high school to post-secondary training and/or employment
Work with teachers and other staff members to familiarize them with the general range of students services offered by the school district and community
