Belonging & Enrichment Coordinator

REQUIRED:

• Bachelor’s degree plus at least four year of experience working in a student services office or related setting OR master's degree plus at least two years of relevant experience
• Exceptional organization, written, and oral communication skills; strong presentation skills.
• Commitment to the values of equity, inclusion, and social justice.
• An understanding of student development with experience in developing and implementing student-focused programs.
• Ability to work well and communicate with diverse populations, including students, faculty, staff, and employers.

PREFERRED:

• Master's degree in counseling, student affairs/personnel, higher education, social work, or a related discipline
• At least 2-3 years of experience working in student affairs in higher education
• Understanding of student development theories
• Familiarity with the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities Campus.
• Experience working with students in STEM majors and/or a background in a related STEM field.
• Positive, motivated, and enthusiastic work style.
• Demonstrated experience advising/counseling small groups of students and giving presentations.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Belonging & Enrichment Coordinator plays a vital role in shaping an inclusive, engaged, and thriving student community within the College of Science and Engineering (CSE). As part of the Belonging & Enrichment team, this position implements and shapes programs and initiatives that foster belonging, leadership, and academic success for all CSE students. The Coordinator supports established efforts such as Women in Science and Engineering (WISE), the Community of Diverse Engineers and Scientists (CODES), CSE Living Learning Communities, and student organizations that help students find connection and purpose in and beyond the classroom.

This student-centered position is ideal for a team player passionate about student development and inclusion in STEM education. The Coordinator contributes to collaborations across CSE departments and with campus partners to cultivate experiences that enhance student wellbeing, leadership, and community. CSE Student Services offers a supportive, hybrid work environment (minimum three days on campus), with intermittent evening and weekend commitments supporting events and programs. The salary for this position starts at $55,280.91 and is dependent on the successful applicant’s experience and skills.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

45% Student Belonging Programming and Initiatives

• Coordinate and implement programming for the WISE Initiative and CODES program focused on supporting underrepresented and under-supported students to thrive through facilitated study groups, community-building activities, professional development opportunities, and coordination of other program logistics.
• Integrates an inclusive and justice-minded framework into every stage of program development, from goal setting and design to implementation and evaluation
• Co-manages programmatic budgets and funding proposals to support program implementation and sustainability
• Fosters collaborative partnerships with CSE identity-based student organizations, co-developing impactful events
• Contributes to and supports quantitative and qualitative data evaluation tools and the subsequent data evaluation to assess program reach, effectiveness, and alignment with goals; using results to inform the approach for future programming
• Collaborate with student services unit colleagues to offer comprehensive support to the CSE cohort of President’s Emerging Scholars (PES) through tracking student progress and intervening to support student persistence and success
• Support the Rooted in STEM outreach program and the CSE Outreach Coordinator by attending monthly Saturday sessions, engaging with high school student participants, and providing direction to CSE student mentors
• Contribute to the planning and execution of the annual CSE Community Impact Awards that recognize outstanding students, faculty, and staff and their efforts to cultivate an inclusive and welcoming environment within the College.

45% Student Enrichment Coordination and Support

• Coordinate CSE student organization support services, including planning of organization fairs, informal student group advising, offering guidance and mentorship as needed, and coordinating student group participation in collegiate events such as Homecoming, Family Weekend, and more.
• Lead logistics for collegiate events such as CSE Week, focusing on coaching student leaders on organizational and leadership skills, recruiting sponsorship, the event planning cycle, and philanthropic opportunities for large-scale engagement.
• Oversee strategic programming for CSE Living Learning Communities, including the CSE CODES House and the CSE Second Year Experience House
• Support mental health initiatives within CSE with other stakeholders, including contributing to logistics for professionally led support groups, co-managing the CSE Care Corner initiative, and other student mental health and wellness support options.
• Manage the hiring and oversight for ~20 student employees, providing leadership coaching, developmental guidance, and intentional training
• Guides student staff through the full lifecycle of event planning from idea conception and intention, promotion and marketing strategy, logistical planning, and engagement strategies, to the execution of the event
• Co-manages programmatic budgets and funding proposals to support program implementation and sustainability

10% Instruction, Professional Development, & Service

• Has the potential to teach one section of CSE 1001: First Year Experience during the fall semester based on course structure, curriculum, and evolving needs. Attend CSE 1001 training sessions, hold weekly office hours, and coordinate with an undergraduate teaching assistant.
• Serve on Student Services, College, and University-wide committees as requested or needed.
• Engage actively with diversity, equity, and inclusion work, training, certificates, and other opportunities through the Office of Equity and Diversity.
• Participate in College recruitment, outreach, orientation, and transition programs, student engagement, commencement, and career events and presentations.
• Participate in local and national professional development associations, events, and programs in the unit, College, University, and/or broader community
• Other duties as assigned
