Join our team as a BHRF Counselor and make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals receiving behavioral health residential services. In this role, you will provide counseling, complete clinical documentation, support treatment planning, and help clients build coping skills, emotional regulation, relapse prevention skills, and daily life stability.

The BHRF Counselor works closely with the BHP, BHT staff, case management, and other members of the treatment team to support client progress in a structured residential setting. This position is ideal for a compassionate, organized, and clinically grounded provider who understands the importance of documentation, treatment plan alignment, crisis support, and trauma-informed care.

Duties

Provide individual, group, and family counseling services to clients in a Behavioral Health Residential Facility setting.

Complete intake-related clinical documentation, counseling assessments, progress notes, and treatment plan updates as assigned.

Review and apply client treatment plans to ensure counseling sessions and group interventions are connected to identified goals and objectives.

Facilitate therapeutic groups focused on coping skills, emotional regulation, communication, relapse prevention, life skills, trauma recovery, anger management, decision-making, and healthy relationships.

Provide crisis support and use de-escalation strategies when clients experience emotional distress, behavioral escalation, trauma responses, or substance-use related challenges.

Collaborate with the BHP, BHTs, case managers, medical staff, and facility leadership to support coordinated care and client stability.

Maintain accurate, timely, and professional documentation in the electronic health record in accordance with agency expectations, HIPAA, and applicable behavioral health standards.

Support clients with behavioral health needs, substance use concerns, trauma history, family conflict, developmental needs, serious mental illness, or co-occurring conditions.

Participate in treatment team discussions, staffing, discharge planning, and clinical coordination as needed.

Use evidence-based and practical interventions such as CBT, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, psychoeducation, behavior modification strategies, trauma-informed care, and skills-based counseling.

Skills and Qualifications

Experience providing counseling, behavioral health support, or psychotherapy services in residential, outpatient, inpatient, community-based, or crisis settings.

Strong understanding of behavioral health documentation, progress notes, treatment plans, and clinical goal tracking.

Knowledge of trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, substance use recovery, emotional regulation, and behavior support strategies.

Ability to work with diverse populations, including adolescents, adults, individuals with serious mental illness, substance use concerns, developmental needs, family stressors, or complex trauma histories.

Familiarity with BHRF, AHCCCS, Medicaid, or residential behavioral health settings preferred.

Ability to communicate professionally with clients, families, staff, and multidisciplinary team members.

Comfortable facilitating groups and providing structured, skills-based counseling interventions.

Strong boundaries, professionalism, reliability, and ability to work within the scope of the assigned role.

Knowledge of HIPAA, confidentiality, mandated reporting, and behavioral health documentation expectations.

Ability to remain calm, supportive, and professional during crisis situations or emotionally charged interactions.

Pay: $40.00 - $43.00 per hour
