JOB SUMMARY: The Business Intelligence Analyst - Safety plays a pivotal role in analyzing safety-related data, trends, and incidents within the transportation industry. This position involves utilizing analytical tools, interpreting data, and providing insights to enhance safety protocols and practices within the organization.

This position plays a critical role in leveraging data to identify safety trends, improve processes, and enhance safety measures within the transportation industry. This position requires a strong analytical mindset, a deep understanding of transportation safety, and the ability to translate data insights into actionable recommendations for improved safety performance.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Business Intelligence & Data Analytics

  • Design, develop, and maintain dashboards, reports, and analytical models that support Safety leadership and operational teams.
  • Aggregate and analyze large datasets related to safety performance, incidents, near misses, compliance metrics, and operational risk indicators.
  • Leverage SQL and data warehouse technologies to extract, transform, and validate data from multiple source systems.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability across all Safety reporting outputs.

Safety Data Insights & Decision Support

  • Translate complex data into meaningful insights that support Safety decision‑making and strategic initiatives.
  • Identify trends, patterns, and emerging risks through exploratory and ongoing analysis.
  • Partner with Safety stakeholders to define metrics, KPIs, and reporting requirements aligned to business and regulatory needs.
  • Provide ad‑hoc analysis and scenario modeling to support leadership questions and operational reviews.

Performance Monitoring & Visualization

  • Monitor key safety performance indicators and compliance metrics through automated reporting and dashboards.
  • Develop clear, intuitive visualizations to communicate performance, trends, and risks to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Continuously improve reporting efficiency and usability through automation and best‑practice BI design.

Data Governance & Process Improvement

  • Support data governance standards related to Safety analytics, including documentation, definitions, and version control.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data collection, reporting processes, and analytical workflows.
  • Collaborate with IT, Operations, and Safety teams to enhance data pipelines and reporting infrastructure.

Regulatory & Compliance Support

  • Maintain awareness of transportation safety regulations and reporting requirements (e.g., DOT, FMCSA) as they relate to data and analytics.
  • Support compliance reporting through accurate, consistent, and auditable data outputs.
  • Assist Safety leadership by providing data‑backed insights that align with regulatory expectations and internal policies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in a BI Analyst, Data Analyst, or similar analytics role.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and experience working with data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake or similar platforms).
  • Advanced experience with Excel and BI visualization tools (Tableau or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex datasets and translate findings into actionable business insights.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present data clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail with a strong focus on data accuracy and integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Safety, Compliance, Risk, or Operations teams in a transportation or logistics environment.
  • Familiarity with DOT, FMCSA, or other transportation safety regulations as they relate to reporting and analytics.
  • Experience with Python, R, or other analytical programming tools.
  • Knowledge of data governance, KPI frameworks, and performance measurement.
  • CSP or CDS certification (or working knowledge of safety analytics concepts)

Work Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or reporting roles, preferably supporting transportation, safety, or operational teams.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Statistics, Information Systems, Safety Management, Transportation Management, or related fields.
