Big Data Intern

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing, testing, and maintaining data processing pipelines and workflows under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Work with data scientists and analysts to understand data requirements and support in designing basic data models and schemas.
• Help optimize and tune existing data pipelines, data storage systems, and analytical workflows to improve efficiency.
• Monitor data processing jobs, identify issues, and support troubleshooting related to performance and data quality.
• Learn and stay updated on big data tools, technologies, and cloud platforms, especially Azure and Hadoop ecosystem components.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather technical requirements and contribute to documentation.
• Prepare and maintain documentation, including design notes, data flow diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
• Support senior engineers on tasks related to best practices, development standards, and data engineering processes.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of Azure services (Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks) or willingness to learn.
• Familiarity with Hadoop ecosystem concepts such as HDFS, Hive, Spark, or MapReduce (academic or project-based exposure is acceptable).
• Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala (academic or project-level experience).
• Basic understanding of SQL and familiarity with NoSQL concepts is a plus.
• Understanding of ETL processes, data modeling, or data warehousing concepts is preferred.
• Strong willingness to learn big data frameworks such as Kafka, Spark, and Azure Synapse/HDInsight.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
• Good communication skills and the ability to explain ideas clearly to technical and non-technical teammates.
