About Our District


The Madison Metropolitan School District is the second largest school district in Wisconsin. The district serves a beautifully diverse population of more than 25,000 students. More than half are students of color. Almost half come from low income households. Nearly one third are English Language Learners, and more than 100 languages are represented in our schools. Madison schools are committed to making this district a place where every child thrives.


Environmental Adaptability:

  • Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors is minimal and poses little to no risk of injury.

General Responsibilities

Under supervision of the Principal; performs general clerical tasks. Tasks are performed under established guidelines.

Examples of Duties

  • Assist with the maintenance of records, which may include student daily attendance records, class size, records, class list, student cumulative files and building permits through computer entry
  • Type purchase requisitions, district reports, newsletters, and correspondence.
  • Assist staff, students, parents and volunteers with various questions and concerns.
  • Answer telephone and safe arrive line. Follow up as needed with safe arrival calls.
  • Sort and distribute mail.
  • Publish, edit, layout of newsletter.
  • Related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Spanish speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties, including typing, word processing, data entry, filing, editing, accepting funds, and photocopying.
  • Ability to work/communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, and volunteers.
  • Ability to remain organized, be flexible and work independently.
  • Experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work toward improving one’s own cultural competence, ie., valuing difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one’s skills and expertise, and having the desire to learn in these areas.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • One-year successful clerical experience.
  • Productive keyboarding skills are required (minimum of 45 wpm). Skills tests in this area will be used to consider candidates.
  • Successful experience with computers (i.e. Windows, Google Suite, Munis employee database applications).

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in a school setting.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Excel spreadsheets.
  • Experience working with Munis or other budgeting software.
