The Bilingual (Spanish speaking) Crisis Counselor delivers effective crisis intervention services to individuals and families who have experienced or are experiencing domestic violence and/or sexual violence. Utilization of crisis services may include lethality assessments, supportive counseling, intensive safety planning, coordination of community resources, provision of basic needs, and information/referrals. As a bilingual (Spanish) crisis counselor, you will prioritize Spanish-speaking clients. In addition, you are expected to perform work in a manner that consistently upholds InterAct’s core values and commitment to putting clients’ needs first by promoting safety, support, stabilization, and healing from the effects of violence and abuse.
Key Responsibilities
Crisis Response & Support

Provide immediate, trauma-informed crisis responses to callers and walk-in clients.

Conduct lethality assessments, safety planning, crisis counseling, and shelter placements.

Provide information, resources, and referrals to community programs and services.

Guide, translate, and support survivors through Domestic Violence Protective Orders.

Provide court advocacy, hospital response, and Solace Center advocacy as needed.
Spanish-Language Services
-
Respond to calls on InterAct’s Spanish Domestic Violence and Sexual Violence crisis lines.

Facilitate or co-facilitate Spanish-language domestic violence support groups, including participant screenings and intakes.

Translate and transcribe documents or proceedings as needed for client support.
Collaboration & Coordination

Partner with InterAct staff, program partners, and community agencies to ensure comprehensive, coordinated services.

Promote a supportive, inclusive environment for staff, interns, volunteers, and clients.

Participate in staff meetings, retreats, case reviews, and inter-program collaboration.

Represent InterAct in the community through training, outreach, and partnership development.
Documentation & Compliance

Accurately record client interactions, case notes, and demographic data in Empower DB.

Maintain strict adherence to confidentiality regulations and agency policies.

Ensure compliance with professional standards of conduct and applicable codes of ethics.
Professional Development
-
Complete onboarding training, including online coursework, role play, and shadowing, before independently responding to calls/walk-ins.

Participate in at least 20 hours of continuing education annually to strengthen knowledge in the field of domestic and sexual violence.

Engage in supervision, accept feedback, and actively integrate professional development into practice.
Other

Support agency operations by performing other duties as assigned.
Maintain flexibility for on-call, weekend, and holiday shifts as needed
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, or a related Human Services field required; master’s degree preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience in crisis intervention (domestic/sexual violence field preferred), OR three (3) years of equivalent experience.
- Ability to provide culturally competent, trauma-informed care with empathy and professionalism.
- Strong crisis management, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Effective communication skills, including clear verbal/written communication and active listening.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and remain calm under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal skills, emotional resilience, and capacity for empathy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Reliable transportation required.
- Must pass a background check and comply with InterAct’s Communicable Disease Policy.
