Duties
- Assist with patient intake by collecting medical histories, verifying insurance information, and updating electronic health records (EHR systems) accurately.
- Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates to support diagnostic processes.
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures by explaining steps clearly in both languages to reduce anxiety and improve cooperation.
- Support clinical staff with tasks including medication administration, specimen collection, X-ray assistance, and basic life support (BLS) procedures.
- Document patient encounters thoroughly using medical terminology and ICD coding to ensure precise record-keeping for billing and treatment continuity.
- Assist with inpatient and outpatient care across various departments such as geriatrics, internal medicine, medical-surgical units, PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), OR (Operating Room), and Level I/II trauma centers.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment while adhering to safety protocols specific to emergency medicine and hospital medicine settings.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Medical Assistant in settings such as dermatology clinics, hospital medicine units, urgent care centers, or outpatient clinics.
- Bilingual fluency in English and another language (e.g., Spanish) is required; exceptional communication skills are essential for effective patient service.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, ICD coding, and basic pharmacology is necessary for accurate documentation and patient care.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required; additional certifications such as X-ray tech or OR experience are highly desirable.
- Familiarity with EHR systems and medical administrative support tasks including intake processing, appointment scheduling, and insurance verification.
- Experience working within hospital environments—particularly Level I or Level II trauma centers—and understanding of emergency medicine protocols is advantageous.
- Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced inpatient or outpatient settings while maintaining attention to detail and compassionate patient interactions.
