Bilingual Safety Case Manager (English/Spanish)

As a Bilingual Safety Case Manager you will give unsupported and isolated families more stability to get through hard times. As part of our Bethany team, you’ll help parents connect with community resources and build support networks to keep their families together and their children out of foster care. By strengthening families before crisis hits, you’ll help them stay where they belong— together.

How Your Role Makes a Difference

  • Oversee and manage services being provided in the in-home Impending Danger Plan; directly provide in-home safety services to children and caregivers as indicated by the plan daily to weekly as needed;
  • Maintain oversight of safety services providers (including family/network supports when used as safety service providers): identify and assess suitability, coordinate participation, and support consistent plan implementation;
  • Provide weekly updates to the IFS Worker on safety service provision and the current sufficiency of the Impending Danger Plan;
  • Respond to disruptions in safety services, arrange alternative coverage when necessary, and immediately notify the IFS Worker when the plan is deteriorating or becomes insufficient;
  • Deliver or coordinate safety-related interventions aligned to safety services such as behavioral management, crisis management, social and separation supports when indicated;
  • Document all services and contracts in the DCFS-identified case management system; maintain weekly case notes on safety management oversight and service delivery;
  • Provide timely support to clients during crisis situations, including availability outside of regular business hours as needed;
  • Assist with housing or school issues as needed;
  • Conduct weekly house visits to meet with families at various hours of the day as scheduled in some neighborhoods categorized as potentially high-risk;
  • May provide case management for the Intact program for the assigned region as needed;
  • Serve as a resource of information between all parties involved in the case and identified stakeholders regarding medical, educational and mental health providers;
  • Conduct visits with children, parents and/or caregivers that include the on-going assessment of child safety, permanency and well-being;
  • Partners with the Intact Family Strengthening worker and Case Aide to provide team support for each family referred to the program;
  • Develop and implement a plan that meets the needs of the children and the family;
  • Perform case management responsibilities in accordance with state and federal laws, Department of Children and Families Administrative Codes and Operating Procedures, funding source policies and internal policies on child abuse, abandonment, and neglect within required timeframes;
  • Attend court hearings, prepare and file all court documents within required timeframes;
  • Travel on a regular basis to external parties;
  • Demonstrate flexibility with working hours outside of the normal business hours to meet the needs of the role to include some evenings and weekends, as needed;
  • May be required or asked to participate in a Bethany sponsored event;
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

What Will Make You Successful

  • Master’s degree in social work from an accredited college or university approved by the Council on Social Work Education and two (2) years of subsequent experience in a child and family welfare agency; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited college or university with a program approved by the Council on Social Work Education three (3) years of subsequent experience in a child and family welfare agency;
  • Bilingual English and Spanish;
  • Meet the qualifications for a “Qualified Mental Health Professional” as defined in Department of Human Services Rules 132, Medicaid Community Mental Health Services Program, Section 132.25;
  • Must be willing and able to obtain a CWEL and CERAP certification upon hire;
  • Must possess the ability to engage, develop, and maintain positive community relationships with a diverse group of individuals;
  • Demonstrates excellent assessment, therapeutic and crisis intervention skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Work well under pressure and adaptable to change;
  • Must have an ability to work flexible work hours to include some evenings and weekends;
  • Computer skills sufficient to perform essential functions including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Must be 21 years old with a valid driver's license with at least 3 years driving experience in the U.S. to operate a vehicle on behalf of Bethany;
  • Must pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check and maintain a reliable vehicle with proof of adequate coverage;
  • Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries;
  • Subscription to and integration of the agency Statement of Faith, Mission Statement, and Commitment to Unity.
