Bilingual Youth Library Associate

The Maxwell Park Library is nestled in the neighborhood near the major streets of Yale Avenue and Pine Street. The library offers programs for adults, teens, and children, such as bilingual storytimes followed by Stay and Play, Final Friday Arcade, and Yarn Therapy. Maxwell has a collection of Spanish materials and a bilingual staff.
The Bilingual Youth Library Associate welcomes customers and ensures that all have an extraordinary experience that supports their needs while proactively connecting customers with services and assists customers in the discovery of all services TCCL offers; provides reference assistance and readers’ advisory services for teens, tweens, their caregivers and educators; assists with physical maintenance of the teen and tween collections; develops and implements teen and tween programs; looks for ways to improve workflow and anticipate customer needs and trends.
Bilingual Youth Library Associate
Location: Maxwell Park Library - 1313 N Canton Ave Tulsa, OK. 74115
Salary: $21.10 /hr.
Status: Full Time - 40 hour/week;
Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision and Life; PTO and Pension
Schedule:
Monday - Friday 9 am - 6 pm,
Rotating Friday (9-6) and Saturdays (9-5);
Occasional Sunday shift at a Regional Library, 1:00 - 5:00
Essential Functions:
  • Presents programs for teens and tweens in anticipation of or response to customer interest or needs;
  • Conducts community outreach, which may include services to schools, day care facilities, and community organizations;
  • Prepares displays to augment teen and tween services and to promote the collection and programs;
  • Helps develop and maintain the teen and tween collections at this library;
  • Communicates effectively, trains customers, and resolves problems at the point of need in the use and application of all of the library’s self-service features including self-check, on-line account management, pay stations, the online catalog, online resource guides, and instructional videos;
  • Rotates throughout zones, helping customers including at the service point desk, providing instructional training and problem solving at the point of need ;
  • Trains and educates library customers on new and existing self-service technology and devices (including e-readers, smart phones and mobile devices); assists with troubleshooting customer self-service tools and technology issues;
  • Ensures that customers successfully use reference and readers’ advisory services; provides one-on-one coaching and assistance as needed;
  • Anticipates customer needs by providing and explaining the use of previously prepared “packets” (in a variety of modalities) of information and tools;
  • May serve as Person in Charge of the location as needed; directing tasks of Customer Service Assistants, Shelvers and volunteers.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelors’ degree required.
  • Bilingual English - Spanish required.
  • No previous experience required; library, retail, or customer service experience preferred.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
The job occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional light lifting, such as three or four reams of paper, four for five books, or other materials (up to 20 pounds) may be required.
There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less than optimal temperature and air conditions. The job may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, such as occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of video display terminals.
