MD West ONE offers the most comprehensive head-to-toe musculoskeletal and nervous system practice in the region. Our depth in orthopedic, neurosurgery and spine specialized care allows our patients to be seen under ONE versatile, collaborative entity.
OBJECTIVE: To research and maintain billing records by verifying claim information, resolving inaccuracies in billing and/or patient information, processing insurance claims and denials and posting payments to patient accounts.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Ensure timely submission of billing charges and account follow-up, including adjustment claims, reconsiderations, and adjustment requests.
· Review medical records, operative notes, invoices, progress notes and discharges to ensure accurate claim submissions.
· Record all payment to related accounts including patient, insurance, and medical record payments.
· Handle insurance inquiries by answering questions from patients and taking patient payments by phone.
· Communicate with medical staff and insurance companies to verify insurance information and medical records to ensure timely payment.
· Monitor claim status and patient balances and provide and document related claim information.
· Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school diploma or equivalent, required.
· Basic knowledge of insurance billing including CPT, ICD 10 and HCPCS, required.
· Proficient computer skills, experience with Microsoft Office and EMR systems, required.
· Basic knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology, preferred.
· Experience in a neurosurgery, orthopedics setting, physical therapy or pain, preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Ability to build strong relationships at all levels of the organization and provide exemplary customer service to patients.
· Ability to listen effectively, as well as strong communication skills.
· Must demonstrate professionalism at all times.
· Demonstrate strong analytical skills and judgment.
· Ability to work independently or as part of a team and meet deadlines.
· Maintain regular attendance.
· Ability to reach with hands and arms to operate office and/or medical equipment.
· Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
· Ability to lift and push up to 5lbs on a regular basis and up to 25lbs on occasion.
· Ability to travel to clinic locations, as needed.
WORK CONDITIONS:
· Works in a hybrid environment. May work remotely some days or may work inside in a medical clinic office setting. Medical clinic office setting: Will be a clean, well-lit area. May deal with unpleasant environmental situations resulting from patient care or patient activity.
· Job may require contact with clinic staff, adjacent hospital staff, and/or patients; potential exposure to communicable and/or infectious diseases.
