Responsibilities:
- Operating and monitoring high-pressure and low-pressure boilers, thermal oil heaters, and associated auxiliary equipment (pumps, valves, water treatment plants, etc.) to ensure optimal performance and continuous operation. This includes reading gauges, meters, and charts to track parameters like pressure, temperature, and fuel levels.
- Performing routine inspections and preventive maintenance to identify and address potential issues proactively. This also involves troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions in boiler systems, burners, pumps, and controls.
- Ensuring strict compliance with national and international safety standards, such as those set by the Pakistan Accord or local regulatory bodies. This includes conducting regular tests on safety devices (e.g., pressure switches, relief valves) and participating in safety drills and audits.
- Maintaining accurate logs and documentation of all boiler performance, maintenance activities, repairs, and incidents. This information is often tracked using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or SAP modules.
- Coordinating with maintenance teams, shift engineers, and other departments to schedule repairs and minimize downtime. Senior roles may involve supervising junior operators and technicians, providing guidance and training.
- Monitoring fuel and water consumption, conducting heat balance analyses, and implementing energy-saving measures to optimize efficiency and reduce operational costs.
Typical Qualifications and Skills:
- Education: A-Class Boiler with diploma (DAE) or Bachelor's degree (BE/BSc) in Mechanical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering is often required.
- Certification: Relevant boiler operator licenses/certifications are mandatory or highly preferred, often classified as 1st, 2nd, or 3rd class certifications depending on regional regulations and boiler capacity.
- Experience: Employers typically require a minimum of 3-5 years of experience operating and maintaining industrial boilers, with senior roles demanding 8-10+ years of relevant experience.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, combustion principles, water treatment processes (RO plants, water softening), and control systems (DCS/PLC) is essential.
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, attention to detail, and communication skills are vital for success in this role.
