Strong understanding of flange management principles.
Knowledge of different flange types, gasket types, and their proper selection and installation.
Ability to inspect flanges, bolts, and gaskets for damage or defects.
Experience in flange alignment and preparation.
Reading & Interpretation:
Ability to accurately read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams), bolt matrices, torque tables, and work instructions.
Troubleshooting:
Ability to identify and resolve issues during bolting operations (e.g., seized bolts, cross-threading, equipment malfunction).
2. Experience:
Proven Work Experience: Typically, 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Bolting and Torquing Technician in relevant industries (oil & gas, petrochemicals, refineries, power plants, heavy fabrication/construction).
Maintenance & Shutdown Experience: Experience in plant maintenance, turnarounds (shutdowns), and commissioning projects is highly valued.
3. Certifications & Training:
Bolting Competency Certification:
Often required from a recognized training body as conducted by the third party (e.g., ECITB MJI modules, OEM-specific training, or other accredited industrial training centers).
Certifications proving competence in hydraulic torquing and tensioning are crucial.
Safety Certifications:
OSHA / NEBOSH or equivalent international safety certifications.
Permit-to-Work (PTW) System: Familiarity with PTW systems and hot work/cold work permits. Worked as WPR (worked permit receiver).
H2S Alive, Confined Space Entry, Basic Fire Fighting, First Aid (depending on the work environment).
Working at Heights (if applicable).
4. Safety & Quality:
Safety Mindset: Unwavering commitment to safety protocols, procedures, and wearing appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
Quality Assurance: Adherence to quality standards and proper documentation of work performed.
Hazard Identification: Ability to identify potential hazards and implement control measures.
Skills
5. General Requirements (for Saudi Arabia - especially expats):
Education: High School Diploma or ITI/Vocational certification in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Language: Proficient in English (reading, writing, and speaking) for communication and understanding instructions. Arabic can be a plus but is rarely a strict requirement for technicians.
Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in industrial environments, potentially involving heavy lifting, standing for long periods, and working in various weather conditions.
