Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing day-to-day accounting operations and financial records for businesses in Canada or the U.S. This role requires accuracy, efficiency, and a solid understanding of local accounting standards and tax practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate financial records using accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks).
- Record daily financial transactions including accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Prepare monthly financial reports and assist in budgeting processes.
- Manage payroll processing in accordance with Canadian or U.S. labor laws.
- Prepare and file government remittances such as GST/HST, sales tax, payroll taxes, etc.
- Reconcile credit card and bank statements.
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Liaise with external accountants during audits or tax filings.
- Maintain and organize digital and physical financial documentation.
Qualifications:
- Proven bookkeeping experience in a Canadian or U.S.-based company (2+ years preferred).
- Diploma or certification in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or a related field.
- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks Online/Desktop, Xero, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of Canadian or U.S. accounting standards and tax regulations.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with remote teams or multi-currency transactions.
- Knowledge of payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Gusto, Ceridian, Payworks).
- Familiarity with CRA/IRS reporting and tax deadlines.
