Bookkeeper for Nonprofit Church

Job Summary
We are a growing nonprofit church located in Houston, Texas seeking a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to support and maintain our financial records. This is an in-house, part-time position (20–25 hours per week) focused on reconciling accounts, ensuring financial accuracy, and maintaining compliance with 501(c)(3) nonprofit standards.

The ideal candidate is an experienced bookkeeper with strong nonprofit or church accounting experience who can help ensure our financial records are organized, accurate, and properly aligned across all financial platforms.

Duties

  • Reconcile and align financial records across all platforms
  • Maintain accurate financial records and assist with Statements of Activities and other nonprofit reports
  • Ensure proper fund tracking and designation management
  • Reconcile and track giving platforms including:

*

  • Stripe
  • PayPal
  • Planning Center
  • Pushpay
  • Manage and reconcile accounts within:

*

  • QuickBooks
  • Gusto (payroll)
  • BILL (spend management)
  • Divvy (expense management)
  • Ensure transactions are properly categorized and assigned to the correct funds/accounts
  • Prepare monthly financial summaries for leadership
  • Assist with budgeting and financial planning support
  • Help maintain compliance with 501(c)(3) nonprofit financial requirements
  • Support documentation for annual reporting and audits

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or related financial roles with familiarity in public accounting or corporate finance environments.
  • Experience working with nonprofit or church financial records
  • Strong understanding of fund tracking and nonprofit financial processes
  • Hands-on experience with:

  • QuickBooks
  • Gusto
  • BILL
  • Divvy
  • Experience reconciling Stripe, PayPal, Planning Center, Pushpay, or similar giving platforms
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain organized, accurate records
  • Ability to work collaboratively with church leadership and financial team

Preferred

  • Experience working with churches or faith-based nonprofits
  • Experience preparing documentation for audits or financial reviews
  • Familiarity with state and federal nonprofit compliance requirements
  • Tax preparing and strong knowledge of IRS standards and procedures
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to handle multiple tasks such as payroll processing and budget management simultaneously.
