Within the County organization, the Door County Library provides accessible information, educational resources, and community services through eight library branches located across the county. Serving residents, visitors, and users of all ages, the library system offers print and digital materials, public technology access, research tools, and a wide range of programs that support learning, literacy, and community engagement. The Door County Library participates in OWLSnet, giving patrons access to materials from dozens of libraries throughout the region.
Library services include public computers, wireless internet, interlibrary loan, self-check options at select branches, and technology-focused programming. Several branches also offer meeting spaces for community use and maintain local history collections that support research and preservation of regional heritage. Through these offerings, the Door County Library provides safe, welcoming spaces that promote knowledge, discovery, and connection across the county.
To continue this important work, we are seeking a candidate who will perform the responsibilities outlined in the job summary and contribute to our efforts in serving the community.
This position is 28 hours per week as the Branch Manager of our Forestville branch.
Job Summary
This position supports the delivery of library services by coordinating daily operations at an assigned branch location. The role provides direct customer service, oversees routine workflows, and assists in implementing programs, collections, and services in alignment with Library policies and procedures. The position may provide day-to-day direction to staff and volunteers and is responsible for ensuring consistent service delivery. Work is performed within established guidelines and under the general supervision of the Area Manager.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Provides direct customer service, including circulation, account registration, and assistance with library resources and digital tools.
2. Coordinates daily branch operations, including circulation, shelving, and public service workflows, to ensure efficient service delivery.
3. Assigns and monitors daily work of staff and volunteers; prepares schedules and approves employee timecards in accordance with County procedures.
4. Trains staff and volunteers on routine procedures, systems, and customer service expectations.
5. Plans and delivers library programs and outreach activities based on established programming goals and community needs.
6. Maintains library collections through purchasing, organization, merchandising, and routine evaluation using established guidelines.
7. Assists with tracking expenditures and coordinating material and program needs within assigned budgets.
8. Monitors branch conditions and reports facility, service, or safety concerns to Library administration.
9. Collects and records fines, fees, and other transactions in accordance with County policies.
10. Prepares routine reports, usage statistics, and documentation as required.
11. Communicates effectively with staff, administration, and the public regarding services, procedures, and issues.
12. Participates in meetings, training, and professional development activities to support service delivery.
13. Coordinates location-specific needs, such as collaboration with Kress Pavilion staff (Egg Harbor) or transportation of materials via ferry (Washington Island).

Required Education & Experience
- Associates Degree in Business, Technology & Media or related field.
- One (1) or more years of work experience providing public-facing services.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, technology, education, or a related field.
- One (1) or more years of experience supporting school, library, or community programming.
- One (1) or more years of experience with library systems, resources, or procedures.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Work is performed primarily in a library setting with minimal exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Duties involve a combination of stationary work and movement throughout the facility. The position requires frequent use of a computer, communication with the public, and handling of library materials. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 40 pounds and to push/pull objects weighing up to 40 pounds of force on an intermittent basis throughout the shift. Tasks may include reaching, bending, and handling materials. Occasional travel for meetings or training may be required. Shifts include evening and weekend hours.
