How does your job as a Breeder Tomato at Rijk Zwaan look like?

The Tomato Breeding Department of Rijk Zwaan Türkiye develops tomato varieties for many different segments. As a Breeder Tomato, based in Antalya, Türkiye you will be part of our Tomato Breeding Team developing varieties mainly for Türkiye, Middle East and North Africa. As Breeder Tomato you will be working on new varieties, plant concepts and disease resistances, in close contact with the market they are intended for and in close cooperation with the sales team. You are also part of a specific global research and crop team and work in close contact with departments like phytopathology, crop maintenance, production and product development. You work both in the greenhouse and office. In addition, you are involved in:

• All kinds of breeding tasks such as selection, crossing block design, phenotyping, administration of related data of various selection and variety trials both on location as abroad
• Local and international travel to judge variety trials
• Analyzing the resulting data, looking for creative solutions to develop a strategy for the breeding program within Rijk Zwaan
• Taking part in strategical discussions about the breeding program

You have good communication skills with internal and external parties and make decisions in good consultation. You work with good planning, organization, analytical and problem-solving skills. On your resume we can find the following:

• MSc level in Agricultural, Biology or relevant university degree, with a good understanding of plant breeding and genetics
• Experience at least 5 years in plant breeding
• Good command of English and Turkish language
• Ability and willingness to travel
