BSA/AML Compliance Officer

Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated BSA/AML Compliance Officer to lead and oversee our Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) compliance program. This individual will serve as the designated BSA Officer, ensuring our institution complies with all applicable federal and state regulations, managing financial crime risk, and acting as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and the Board of Directors. The ideal candidate brings deep regulatory knowledge, proven success in building and enhancing compliance frameworks, and the ability to leverage technology, data analytics, and risk-based strategies to safeguard the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance Program Leadership
  • Serve as the designated BSA Officer with full responsibility for managing and overseeing the institution’s BSA/AML and OFAC compliance program.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain BSA/AML and OFAC policies, procedures, and controls to ensure regulatory compliance and alignment with industry best practices.
  • Lead transaction monitoring and suspicious activity investigations; prepare and file SARs and CTRs with FinCEN.
  • Conduct regular AML and fraud risk assessments, ensuring findings are documented, mitigated, and reported to senior management and the Board.
  • Oversee customer due diligence (CDD) and enhanced due diligence (EDD) programs, ensuring compliance with KYC obligations.
Risk Management & Oversight
  • Monitor for emerging financial crime risks, assess internal vulnerabilities, and design corrective action plans to address control weaknesses.
  • Review and approve product changes, new services, and third-party vendor relationships for potential AML/CFT risks.
  • Conduct ongoing reviews of sanctions lists, including OFAC and FinCEN, and manage screening tools to identify and resolve potential matches.
  • Stay current with regulatory updates, global money laundering and terrorist financing (ML/TF) trends, and industry developments, ensuring proactive program updates.
Governance & Reporting
  • Maintain independence and authority to act as the institution’s point of contact with regulators, auditors, and law enforcement agencies.
  • Provide regular reporting to senior management and the Board of Directors on the status of the compliance program, significant risks, and remediation efforts.
  • Liaise with external auditors and regulators during BSA/AML examinations, leading responses and corrective action plans as needed.
Training & Culture
  • Develop and deliver AML training programs to staff, fostering a strong culture of compliance across the institution.
  • Act as subject matter expert and advisor on financial crime risks, ensuring compliance considerations are embedded into strategic business decisions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) designation required.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in BSA/AML compliance, including serving as a designated BSA Officer or equivalent leadership role.
  • Proven expertise in regulatory compliance, financial crime detection, and risk management strategies.
  • Hands-on experience with transaction monitoring systems (e.g., Sardine.ai, LexisNexis Bridger) and data analytics tools.
  • Strong knowledge of OFAC compliance, KYC/CDD/EDD processes, and FinCEN reporting obligations.
  • Demonstrated success in policy development, audit remediation, and vendor due diligence.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
Preferred Skills & Attributes
  • Experience implementing automated transaction monitoring systems and tailoring rules to risk profiles.
  • Background in fintech, credit unions, or non-bank financial institutions.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor compliance staff.
