Job Description

The City of Chesapeake is seeking applications for the position of Budget Analyst. While experience in local government budgeting is preferred, this position is also open to early-career candidates. The ideal candidate demonstrates intellectual curiosity and is willing to work independently to find solutions to complex problems.
The Analyst will join a talented and innovative Budget staff in a City with a reputation for being stable and well-managed. The Budget Department supports over 40 City departments to develop an annual operating budget and CIP which in total exceed $2 billion. The Analyst would have an opportunity to forge relationships with a portfolio of assigned departments and make recommendations based on analysis to City leadership.
Requires a bachelor’s degree in public administration, economics, public finance or a related field. Requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience. Master’s degree in a related field is desirable. Hiring salary $60K to $99K DOQ/E.

Required Qualifications
Vocational/Educational Requirement: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, economics, urban and regional economics, public finance, or a closely related field.
Experience: In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.
