Job Description
The chief objective of this position is to manage all departmental and Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography budgets including analyzing, reconciling, projecting, monitoring, and reporting using accounting based software and ODU’s BANNER systems in accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia’s policies and procedures. This position will initiate, prepare and approve all purchase requisitions in accordance with CAPP and ODU’s Procurement policies. Manage travel of faculty staff and students in OES, and all travel budget allocations. Manage payroll functions for the entire department and for the Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography for both state and grant funds.

Considerable knowledge of GAAP, including execution of financial reporting. Considerable knowledge of effective customer service and problem resolution techniques. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a diverse public. Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, Access, and electronic mail programs Demonstrated ability to produce regular and ad hoc reports.

Considerable prior experience as a financial manager with experience maintaining complex financial records using multiple financial software platforms.

Considerable knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia’s accounting policies & procedures. Considerable knowledge of financial procedures within the Commonwealth of Virginia and federal grant management. Some knowledge of the Chrome River system. Some prior working experience in an academic/research department.
